Unexpected
They had been staying at Elinor's for two months. It had been that long since the Shadow had killed Capricorn and Dustfinger and Farid had disappeared. Two months, and no one had seen Basta and the Magpie. Meggie's thriteenth birthday was coming up soon and it would be the first one she could remember that her mom would be there to help her celebrate. Teresa still hadn't gotten her voice back, but they were still glad to be together again. Meggie was in her big room, sitting on her big bed, reading a big book. While she was thinking again about what all had happened, she felt sort of lonely. She missed Dustfinger, Farid, and Gwin. She wondered if Dustfinger found his way back home, where they were and if they were all alright. Meggie sighed and put away the Odyssey. She started to go outside. Mo and her mom were in his workshop putting dresses on Elinor's books. She stepped outside and went into the garden where Dustfinger put a show on for her what seemed like a lifetime ago. She sat on the bench and watched th e fairies play. Their population had increased to over 100. "You know if you catch a fairy and keep it until dusk, it will give you good luck?" Meggie turned around so fast she got a crick in her neck. "Dustfinger told me that, anyways." Farid said sitting down beside her with a slight blush on his tan face. "Farid!" Meggie squealed slightly and gave him a swift hug. "Where have you been? Where's Dustfinger? How are you? Wow, it's so good to see you again!" Meggie's game of 20 questions startled Farid slightly, but he answered all the same. "We traveled long the coast looking for a reader. And Dustfinger finally found someone to read him back in the book and Fenoglio out. I'm fine, and the feeling is mutual." Farid and Meggie both turned slightly pink. "Do you want to come in? I bet you hungry!" With that Meggie stood up, grabbed Farid's hand and lead him inside. " Mo, Elinor, Darius, Mom! We have a visitor!" Meggie exclaimed as they walked into the door. Everyone came out of two doors, Darius and Elinor came out of the library door, Mo and Resa came out f his workshop. "Farid! How are you son? How did you find us?" Mo asked in his wonderful voice. "I'm fine and Dustfinger told me how to get here." Farid looked at his ant-bitten bare feet, blushing again. "I see you have that creature with you.." Elinor said looking at his shoulder. Meggie looked and saw that she had missed Gwin perched there asleep. "Yes..." Farid mumbled. "So do you want to tell us about your adventure?" Mo asked softly, by Teresa's side. "Not really. I'm sort of tired." Farid said, looking uncomfortable. "I don't know where I'm going to put you! All of my rooms are filled with books! And the attic is no place for a travel weary boy." Elinor said. "He can sleep in my room! We can catch up on things. I don't mind." Meggie said, a little over-excitedly. Mo and Teresa looked at eachother. They had a sort of ESP thing going on. "Fine..." Mo said a little reluctantly. He trusted both the kids, but he knew all to well about hormones. With that Meggie showed Farid and Gwin to their room.Well thats chapter one!
