His blue eyes were glassy and stained a light red. He was miserable and letting the world know it, Blake Paxton Dresden stood in Kay - Bee toys, His father had taken him and his mother shopping and the two accidentally went off without him. The small boy stood in a jacket with a bear on the front of it, His dirty blond hair was unkempt and his blue eyes as stated before were deeply red and glossy. Blake thought himself to be self sufficient, He knew how to read and tie his own shoes, But navigating the mall in Citrus Heights, California was a hard task. He had lost himself scanning over the toys and when he looked over his shoulder he didn't see his parents at all which caused his heart to plummet and race in his tiny chest. At first he refused to cry, His elder cousin, Jeremy Skousen told him that only sissies cry so he neglected the welling tears as he didn't want to be called names.

Instead he wandered the stalls of Kay-Bee toys endlessly and finally gave up once he had circled the G.I Joe actions figures four or five times. He set down the soda he had gotten from the food court and slumped down unto the ground, A tear trailed down his cheek as he cradled himself Believing his parents to have abandoned him. He should have listened to Mrs.Geoffry ( His preschool teacher ) And always stay with his Mother or Father when inside the store, Now he was without a doubt lost. He dare not venture out into the store as he would get lost in the ocean of unfamiliar faces and disappear without a doubt.

A large ivory-skinned shadow drifted through the mall, following a pale blond girl that led him by the hand. The day had been cloudy and Rosalie had decided to go out. Every so often, she would get tired of her closet magically refilling itself with new clothes and decide to go on a shopping spree, on the tab of her rich husband of course. Emmett already had a few bags hooked onto his fingers as he was dragged along. Suddenly, his nostrils were filled with the sweetest scent he'd caught in years. It always filled him with the deepest hunger. He looked for the source, finding that the wonderful smell drifted out from under a toy store sign. He inhaled deeply, flashing back to the last time he'd been lucky enough to find a blood that called to him so strongly. It took over a decade to get the crimson glow from his eyes completely. It was the best meal he had in years. Even better than the occasional bear he fed off of.

His hand slid from the blond's as he became distracted by the toy store. "I'll... catch up." He said softly, taking a deep breath. Rosalie show him a worried glance, but the golden hue of Emmett's eyes allowed her to be trusting enough to give her husband a nod and then leave.

At that, the bear of a man ghosted into the toy store, following that scent with the facade of a man that had just discovered the most blissful environment he could imagine. He stopped when he found the source of the pleasant odor, his brow furrowing. Never had a child crossed his mind. He moved to the boy, crouching down to get closer to him and to seem less imposing.

"Hey there, big guy. Where are your parents?" He asked before swallowing back the venom that flowed over this bloodthirsty tongue in copious amounts. Could he really hurt this little boy? A crying child that was somehow separated from his family did seem like a fair target but it certainly didn't seem like a good meal. Naturally Blake was hesitant once he heard the voice. The small boy glanced up, Removing his face from his hands and looked up at the large man. He was intimidating in terms of size, His face was soft and soothing. His blue eyes narrowed and then opened once he realized that the man was going to do no harm to him "I don't know where." He answered looking past Emmett and then back toward the last aisle "I'm lost." He informed him, Even though it was obvious that he was lost and there was no helping that. "Can you find my mom?" He asked his voice seemed to be a bit cracked, Since he had been holding back tears.

Emmett frowned at the news that the boy was lost. His parents were surely searching everywhere for him, and he knew that Rosalie would never forgive him for killing a child like this. He would have been her dream son. With a soft sigh, he forced back his hunger and lifted the small boy up onto his shoulder with ease. "You'll definitely see them from up here." He said with a smirk, starting to wander around the store and then the mall. If he couldn't feed, then at least he got the scent for a little longer.

Rosalie found him, looking at the child with wide eyes. "What's your name? I'm Rosalie. Emmett is my husband." She asked with a smile, offering Blake her arms. "Mind if I take you?" She asked, her eyes glossing over like she was about to cry.

The masculine man smirked and prodded Blake playfully in the side. "Whatcha think?" He asked with a dimpled grin, looking up at the blond. "Should I let her hold you?"

Blake clutched onto Emmett once he was lifted on his shoulder's, He was so high up it was unbelievable. Blake was more lost into thought that anything, Was it everyday that some sort of hulking guardian angel came out of no where and helped you? Blake guffawed, This was all so amazing. "You're like a super hero." Blake commented grabbing onto the collar of his shirt to hold on. When Rosalie came out of no where Blake did nothing but look down at her, He could go to her and be held but he was rather comfortable atop of his giant angel's shoulder. "Look, Mom." He stated pointing as his mother as she came out of the background toward the two of them. "Blake!" She shouted clutching her purse for dear life as she stepped toward the two. She looked toward Emmett and then at Rosalie with a pleading grin as she offered her arms to Blake and the child crawled into her arms. "Thank you so much." She said on the verge of tears as she kissed into his blond hair and wiped a escaping tear from her cheek "I thought I had lost him, Thank goodness you found him." She then collected herself and set Blake down. The smaller boy then stepped forth and gave a hug to Rosalie, He could feel something in her: A unfulfilled need, And it made him frown. Stepping back he glanced up at her, His blue eyes on her solid gold for an immeasurable moment. The five year old then stepped toward Emmett and found it hard to wrap his arms around his thickly muscled legs, It was unfair and he finally gave up.

The muscled vampire smiled at the blond boy. "Something like that, yeah." He joked lightly, glad that he fought back the hunger. He would have hated himself if he'd fed on this little boy. He was such a cute kid. It almost made him wish that Rosalie could have children still. If it would end up like this human, he would love the kid to no end. The vampire handed the boy to his mother when she came to them. "Don't mention it. I knew you were probably worried sick. He's a good kid." Emmett said with a dimpled grin. Rosalie returned the hug gently, her eyes watering like she was about to cry. She would have happily stepped in and raised Bake if his parents hadn't found him. The big man laughed as the blond boy tried to hug him and couldn't. He squatted down and gave him a tight hug before pulling back and ruffling his hair. "Now you stay with your parents." He warned softly before standing up once again and grinning at Blake's mother. "We should be heading on our way. There's a lot to do before the mall stores start closing." He said, wrapping an arm around his wife.

The small blond looked up at them both, feeling as though they were both to inhuman to be real. Almost like they stepped out a cartoon or a book, His mother tugged him away as she waved them goodbye. Blake looked over his shoulder once more and waved at his large guardian angel. They walked a bit more, a good three feet or so and upon looking back Blake saw no hulking form and no angel beside him, Only silence remained in their places and nothing more.
