Guilt

Chapter 3 Guilt

The five had traveled far before they finally where to worn out to move anymore. That and they where hungry. Taking some bread out of their packs they began to eat. Regis went over to Drizzt's side and shook him to wake the elf. Eyes opened, but the look was blank. It seemed like he stared at nothing, but the halfling tried anyways. He held out a piece of the bread.

"Drizzt, you need to eat something." He said holding it in front of the elf's face. Closing his eyes, the elf turned his head away. "Please Drizzt."

To the halflings dismay, the elf had already gone back to a cold sleep. Regis walked over next to Bruenor. He told him that Drizzt wasn't eating, no matter how much he asked. The dwarf hated to to this, but he had no choice. Shaking Drizzt awake the dwarf grabbed him by his jaw as gently as he could. Struggling, the drow landed a hit to Bruenor's nose. It was nothing more then a light smack, but effective in teaching Bruenor a lesson. Turning to Wulfgar, the dwarf regretted to have to ask for this.

"Keep him still."

The barbarian nodded and did as he was told. Keeping Drizzt's arms and legs tangled in the blanket proved to make Bruenor's job easier. Once again grabbing the elf by the jaw, he made him open his mouth. After placing the piece of bread in the dwarf held the mouth closed until he felt the drow swallow. This continued for a few more pieces. The two agreed that Drizzt had had enough to eat. Wulfgar gently laid the elf back down. It was his fault. Wulfgar couldn't stay close to the friend he betrayed any longer.

"I'm going to go look for some more fire wood." He walking out of the camp area.

Cattie-brie walked over to Drizzt and sat beside the sleeping dark elf. Moving some stray hairs from his face she bent over and kissed his cheek. Her tears fell onto his cold skin. To her dismay he didn't move at all.

"No, please. Don't do this to me Drizzt. I don't want to loose you again. I can't take it if you would leave for good." She sobbed.

Mean while, the barbarian had his own emotional ordeal to pass through. Standing there, no one within listening range he spoke to himself, confused, frightened, and guilt struck. Whispering to tempus or any other one of the gods of Fearrun, he spoke, hoping for some guidance. The only voice in his head kept saying it wasn't his fault, but the voice of the figure in his mind had more control.

"It's not my fault...they will forgive me when they learn the truth....." he doubted his own pain stricken words. "I didn't do it on purpose." Wulfgar hid his face with his hands.

'You have always wanted that. Remember the blissful feeling that washed over you when you rushed into his heat?' The voice spoke. Shaking his head seemed all that he was capable of. 'The soft texture of his skin. The silken feeling of his hair. It was all so lovely. Face it, you have never had a better time with anyone else. The best night of your life was rapping your best friend.'

"It wasn't me, it wasn't my fault."

'So good, yes, he was very good. Maybe you should stay looking for men instead of women. After all, you enjoyed it so much.'

"Go away."

The voice laughed and cackled. It was all perfect, going just as the goddess had planned. Lloth thought to herself, seeing everything happening through her puppet's eyes. 'Yes, waist away in your guilt while Drizzt fades away, dear barbarian. With the two of you gone it shall be easy to rise to conquer mithral hall. That traitor will not make it in time to the surface elf village. It is fun to watch you try though.'
