Chapter 3

Trust

I sat in front of a fire, watching it glowing flames reach towards the sky. Billy’s wheelchair was to my right, and Jacob sat to my left. We were surrounded by the council and the other pack members. I didn’t listen as they spoke of my class=GramE>fate, instead the fire had brought back another memory, a vision of a past life.

A violin rest in my hands and I play as I sat before the fire, many of the members of the camp where dancing to my music and I took pride in that. I closed my eyes as I played and stood, putting my soul into my music as another joined in.

My eyes burst open as I smirked, playing faster and faster. class=GramE>Too fast. I stopped playing as silence fell around me, only to see that the others were all…dead. The group lay on the ground, bleeding from various wounds, and I was untouched. I looked around and a dark figure reached out to me, perhaps he was the devil himself.

My eyes burst open and I screamed. I felt eyes on my and looked around, seeing that I was still sitting before the fire with Jacob and Uncle Billy. I closed my eyes and rested my hand on my heart, its frantic beating never slowing. I whimpered softly and buried my face in Jacob’s chest as I cried.

“Don’t let him get me Jake. Please…don’t let him get me.”

“Let who get you?”

“I…I don’t know…”

I sat with Jacob watching A Nightmare before Christmas. I had only a short time to live, and I would soon have to move out of La Push and into the Cullen’s home. I curled up closer to Jacob and closed my eyes, Jacob didn’t notice. I didn’t want to leave him, but the wolves didn’t want me to stay around after I was turned, they wanted to get rid of me, they would rather that I was gone forever, however they did agree that they couldn’t let me die and that it would be good to have my help to stop the coming wolf pack.

In just a few days I would be a vampire. In just a few days I would crave blood. In just a few days…

I looked up at Jacob and bit my bottom lip.

“They will be here soon. We should go to the borderline.”

“Are you…all packed?”

I nodded and let Jacob help me get everything in his car and from his car, into Carlisle Cullen’s car.

I stood on the line and looked at Jacob before running to him and throwing my arms around him.

“Tell Billy that I will meet him again when I am sane.”

“And what about me?”

I smiled.

“Our future is already entwined Jacob, we will spend centuries together, maybe more.”

He frowned.

“You will understand in time.”

I shook as I set my room up. At the moment there was a bed in the room, but there wouldn’t be for long, this was for my time…that I was completely out of my mind. Carlisle lay me down slowly, and my heart began to pound in my chest.

“Are you sure about this Asher? We can do it some other time.”

I shook my head.

“No, I need to be ready for the future, and I will only be ready in time if it happens tonight. Besides…I trust you Carlisle.”

Pain filled my body and I knew no more.
