Awakening

Carlisle spent some time taking in Esme. She was beautiful. If he had breath in his body she would have stolen it. She smelled of lavender and vanilla. Carlisle had thought of Esme often over the last ten years. She had captivated him as a child and now as a woman she just drew him in even more. Her beauty was heightened by her change it was like her beautiful spirit was shining through her skin. Edward had told him that Esme had jumped off a cliff (he had heard it in her thoughts while she was changing) what could have caused such a stunning woman to try and end her own life. Carlisle was sure that he could find out.

Esme stared into the face that belonged to the beautiful golden eyes. She could not believe what she was seeing. Could it really be him?
“Dr. Cullen?” she stammered. When he nodded she just continued to stare. Apparently better eyesight was one of the side effects of being turned into a vampire. He was even more beautiful to he now than he had been before. His face was perfect, smooth, and emitted a warmth even through the cold skin. She couldn’t form a coherent thought while she was staring into his face. She had dreamed of him almost nightly for ten years and her dreams had certainly not done him justice.

“She’s dreamed of you. Apparently often” A voice said from the door. Startled Esme looked up to see a bronze haired boy about seventeen standing in the doorway. He was beautiful as well but still reminded Esme of a child unlike the man standing before her. She also didn't appreciate that he had spoken that out loud.
“Excuse me?” She said. Then she stopped in wonder. Was that her voice? It sounded like bells being carried on the wind.
“Don’t be scared Esme. This is Edward he lives here with me. He can hear the thoughts of those around him and apparently doesn’t mind sharing them with everyone” Carlisle said turning a severe glare in Edwards direction.
“I’m not leaving. She could hurt you” Edward said from his place by the door obviously answering Carlisles thoughts. Carlisle just kept staring at him. What did he meant that she could hurt him? She couldn’t possibly hurt him.
“Fine but keep her thoughts to yourself please your making her uncomfortable” Carlisle said before turning his attention back to Esme. Esme watched the exchange with wide eyes. He could hear her thoughts. That was going to be uncomfortable she was sure of it. She was going to have to learn how to control her thoughts around him then. She heard Edward chuckle softly.

“Esme. How are you feeling?” Carlisle asked her snapping her attention back to him.
“I am confused and my throat is burning” Esme confessed. She was confused she felt so strange. Her sight was so much clearer she could swear she was seeing colours she didn’t even know existed before. She also noticed that breathing did not feel the same anymore either and with every breath she took she was assaulted with a collage of scents. She could smell Carlisle the clearest of course his scent reminded her of summer clean, warm and welcoming. She wanted so badly to lean into him and take in even more of his scent. She heard another soft chuckle from the door. yes definitely annoying.

“Your throat burns with thirst. Lets go hunt and then I will answer any questions you may have. First though you should change. Edward picked up some clothes for you in town they are there on the chair. Once you have dressed I will take you to hunt” Carlisle said.
“I wasn’t dreaming then. You turned me into a vampire?” Esme said quietly she couldn’t get her head around the concept.
“Yes Esme I did. It was the only way to save you.” With that Carlisle and Edward left her alone to get changed.

Esme looked at herself in the mirror before changing and was immediately shocked at was she was seeing. She was covered in blood and her clothes were very torn. That was probably from the jump off the cliff she thought. She immediately took the clothes off startled at how quickly she moved. Her reflection in the mirror was blurring she was moving so fast. Then she quickly dressed herself in the clothes they had laid out for her. When Esme returned to look at herself in the mirror again she took a closer look. Her skin which had always been fair was now extremely pale. Her skin practically glowed, and it was flawless. She patted her stomach which before now had still had a little bit of baby fat on it but now it was flat and smooth. This revelation brought to her a crushing grief. Her Baby. What is she going to do? An eternity of life without her precious baby boy. She looked into the mirror again to stare herself in the face and was shocked and horrified by the red eyes that looked back at her. They were bright and terrifying. Just then Carlisle walked back into the room.

“Esme. Your eyes will fade and then change to a gold within a year. I am sorry but it is an unfortunate part of being a newborn.” Carlisle said. Esme winced at the word newborn. Her thoughts were still centred on her lost son. “Come Esme lets go hunt your thirst must be very uncomfortable by now” It was the burning in her throat just kept getting worse. Esme took Carlisles hand and walked with him out of the house and into the woods. She immediately noticed that Edward had not come with them. She felt slightly relieved by this she was not entirely comfortable with the idea that he could hear her thoughts. She wondered just how much he had told Carlisle while she had been changing both body and clothes. The thought was not a comforting one.
