The Dream
A solid door lay between her and whatever she was in search for. The door was locked and there seemed to be no keys for it. Sighing dejectedly, Mae turned around a walked down the path back into the forest. Every since she had gotten lost in this strange area, full of strange puns, she'd been having more and more dreams. The one with the tangler was very frequent. But then this dream had started to happen. Unlike other dreams, this one was different. Mae always began in front of a massive door. Then Mae almost got to choose what to do next. At first she'd been obsessed on what was on the other side of the door, but lately she'd given up on getting through it and began to explore the rest of the world. The world was made up of paths that led to different clearings. Each clearing had a different scenario. One was the tangler having its way with her. She was able to watch as she dangled from one of the tentacles as a second plunged into her womanhood. Another was of her being accosted by goblins. These goblins seemed to have burn marks all over their bodies, and seemed most eager to have their way with her as well, with far less success. But one struck her the most odd.In it she was absolutely naked, wearing nothing but war paint. She was riding the Python into a line of creatures she'd never seen or heard of before. In her hands was a blood-soaked sword that she dipped down viciously into the sea of creatures. Then the scenario ended with her screaming out some gibberish that she could never make out.Today, Mae thought about visiting a new path. Mae turned into a clearing hoping to see some wacky adventure, instead there was nothing. Not the type of nothing that represented no activity. No. Absolutely nothing, the complete absence of anything."What are ye doing fair lass", a voice boomed behind Mae. Mae turned around and lifted her fingers as if they were talons. Purely by reflex."I get it lass, ye wish to know what is not yours to know", the voice continued, but Mae still could not make out where it was coming from."Or perhaps ye do have the right to know what is your right to change", the voice said, sounding incredibly smug."Show your self", Mae said, beginning to lose her cool."Do ye know that I could defile ye anyway I wished and ye still will serve my plans.""What", Mae was getting confused. The voice's constant use of ye was one thing, but his cryptic threats were really hard to follow."Fine I'll stop, the use of ye is a tad pointless", the voice then seemed to grow more intense," By the way, in here, I can hear all your thoughts."How Mae wondered? Its not like Maenad's thoughts made it often through to the nymph under normal circumstances, so how could they ever be heard by a stranger?"I rule this place. Not the dreamscape, you rule that you foolish lass. I mean this immediate area is mine.", the voice stopped and then began to chuckle," After all, I made it. Be careful Oracle of Pythia, you must remain pure to fit into my plan, don't give yourself away to a man just yet."The presence of the voice began to lift and soon Mae was awake on the forest floor. Mae stood up and dusted herself off. Slowly the effects of the region began to seep back into her. But she kept trudging on, despite the extreme anger she felt towards everything.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Python had almost given up on finding Mae. Indeed he had begun to turn around one night and head back to Mount Parnassus with news of her disappearance. Then he felt it. A darkness had begun to press down on a certain area deep within the Region of Madness. With a shrill hiss, the Python knew right away who it was.The Sleepless One.The Python decided to brave going deeper into the Region of Madness, he knew that where that darkness had centred, Mae would be. He hoped.
