Chapter 4: APOV

Today was the big day. We arrived at Dr. Greene’s offices and were settled into a sonogram room waiting for her to come in. I was up on the table in a gown and a paper covering, and Christian was stroking my hand nervously from his chair. I knew that whatever Little Blip was we would both love it to death, but for Christian’s sake I had begun hoping it was a little boy.

Dr. Greene finally came in and gave us a big smile.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Grey! Excited for the big day?”

I knew Christian was not going to be in a talkative mood, so I responded for the two of us, “Oh yes, we are so excited to find out the gender!”

“Well then, let’s get started!” Dr. Greene lifted my gown to expose my stomach. I couldn’t believe how much I had grown now that we were at the halfway mark. It was even harder to believe that I would at least double in size by the end.

I squeezed Christian’s hand as Dr. Greene plopped the cold jelly onto my stomach. He rose from his chair to be next to me, nervously running his free hand through his hair.

Dr. Greene moved the wand back and forth over my belly, trying to find the right angle to see Little Blip, I presumed. The wait was killing me, and I knew it was driving Christian nuts.

Finally, Dr. Greene looked up. “Are you ready?”

I nodded my head emphatically.

“It’s a… boy!” Dr. Greene exclaimed.

A boy! I looked up at Christian. There were tears brimming in his eyes.

“I’ll give you both a minute,” Dr. Greene said, and I mouthed a silent thank you.

“Christian, you’re going to have a son! Are you happy, baby?”

He was still a bit in shock, never taking his eyes from the screen. I squeezed his hand and sat up a bit, looking for a towel to wipe the goo from my stomach. This seemed to jolt Christian from his stupor a bit, and he pulled a few tissues to gently wipe my stomach for me.

“Hi, baby boy,” he whispered. “I’m your daddy. I can’t wait to play baseball with you and go to your soccer games, my son.”

I beamed looking down at my sweet Fifty. He looked up at me, and I wiped a soft tear that was about to roll down his cheek.

“Thank you for my son, Ana.” I choked back tears myself.

“Oh, Christian!” He kissed my deeply, and I held his cheek.

Dr. Greene knocked on the door.

“Come in!” Christian called. He was regaining his composure and finding his voice again.

“Okay, so everything looks great, and everybody’s healthy. We will take another look at your little man in about a month!”

“Thank you so much, Dr. Greene!”

She left the room, and I hopped off the chair to get dressed. Christian helped me out of the gown and into my clothes, stealing strokes across my stomach as I got ready.

“Come, my love, let’s go home,” Christian took my hand and led me out the door.
