5) Life and Death

Life went on as normal as can be after the creature was caged up in Castle Rock. During that time, Angela got to play mom as she helped the kids to survive on the island.

Five more huts had been built and she was able to get a small vegtible garden to grow on the edge of the woods. She was even able to teach the hunters how to net some fish when the current was right. She even put Roger in 'time out' one time when she caught him throwing stones or something at one of the Little'uns.

During this time, Angela made several observations about this group of castaways.

She noticed how Jack and Ralph acted around each other at times. She smirked at from time to time, knowing the hidden meaning behind it yet keeping her mouth shut all the same. She played match maker oand and it turned to hell in a hand basket.

Piggy and his glasses came to represent Clear-sightedness and intelligence. Bassically he's the social order of the group trying to keep them together. The glasses were also important due to the fact that they help create fire which is used for rescue and cooking fires.

Ralph and his conch came to represent Democracy and order. With him in charge, everyone has a say in what goes on the island.

Her sweet Simon came to represent Pure Goodness. Esentially he's the "Christ Figure" of the island. Angela loved to spend her nights simply talking with him in the Nature Place about his home and family as they laid in the safety of one of her hamocks high above the ground.RogeRoger came to represent Evil. Essentially he's the Satan of the island. Angela finds that she puts him in 'time out' the most of all the boys...something was telling her that she'd have to watch out for him in the future.

Jack came to represent Savagery and Anarchy. His thrill in the hunt worried Angela and he didn't everyone a equal voice. It's either his way or the highway. Angela didn't like he treated Piggy and some of the Little'uns and she frowned on how easily R cou could use him.

The Island isteld is a microcosm representing the world. This is their world and they have to live in it the best they can. That means they have to work together in order to survive...but that doesn't look as if it's going to work very well in the far future.

The "Scar" near the beach is Man's destruction and destructive forces that's displayed in the current war and in Jack's tribe of hunters. Angela knew what all this would lead to and shuddered as she often tried to put it frmo her mind.

The Beast itslef is the evil residing within everyone, the dark side of human nature. That all consuming fear that will tie your feet down to the Earth itself and kill you on the spot. The thing we despise the most yet hides among us.

Lord of the Flies is the Devil, great danger or evil incarnate. Either a creation by man or by Darkness itself, Angela will never know. But it's there in the woods sitting atop a pike with all these fat flies buzzing around it and filling the air with the most wreched scent that drives all living creature away from it.

The creature in castle rock has come to represent Darkness, the force which drive evil to be evil and work Darkness' will when it can't. Even though it's locked up, some of the boys still wander by to take a peek at it and the creaure does have to power to get into one's head. So Angela is begining to wonder if it has gotten to either Jack or Roger...or both.

Then there's her...

She has come to represent Light on this lone island, the force which good to be good. She suports Simon and cares for him as a brother and cares for the boys as if they are her own. She guides them as best she can but makes sure that they walk on there own and that Ralph leads his own way, she didn't let him stay leader for just the fun of it you know.

After the boys arrived and the creature was captured, Angela found that she had to rework her scheulde in order to be awake during the day and the night. So she got six hours of sleep, three before sunrise and three after. This worked well untill the 1st night of the true full moon. Angela found it curious how the creture shrak back from this moon of all moons. It was a simple beautiful silver moon that shoned down on the island, just like all the other moons before it. Yet there was something in the air that night that lulled both her and Simon to sleep early.

The two laid in a the hammock, sleeping peacefully in the Nature place when the full moon reached the highest point in the sky and shined right down on Angela. The light disturbed Angela a little but it didn't wake her from such a deep sleep this night as it lurred her deeper into the Dream Realm to show her the past.

Angela found herself floating down from her hammock and as she got closer to the ground she gasped as she watched what looked to be a village of grass huts slowly fad into exisitence, and the moment her feet touched the ground people appeared in the village. Angela looked around at all the dakr skined and raven haired men, women and children in astonishment and began to wonder who they were and how they came to be there.

"We've always been here," said a male voice in her language. She turned around to see what appeared to be the town elder...or witchdoctor by the looks of his headdress.

"I'm the medicine man of this tribe my dear," the man said with a warm smile.
"What's going on here?"
"You're dreaming of the past my dear. This place that you and the one you call Simon affectionally call the Nature place is the area where my people once lived so many years ago."

"I see...what happeened to bring the creature to life?" Angela asked. The man let out a heavy sigh and gave a motion for her to walk with him, so she did.

"I'm not at all sure what brought the creature here but it could have had something to do with this one patient of mine," the man said and Angela looked on confussed.

"Patient?" she asked and the man nodded.
"Yes, there was this one child that was brought to me who washed up on the tide. I treated this child for three days and three nights under the light of a full moon simlar to this one. Before the child died, it requested a burial on the side of the volcano...and we honored it," thr mans said, the last part sadly.

Just then, the mountain erupted with flames and the figure of the careture can be seen. Angela gasps at this fearsome shilloutete enhanced by the enchanted moonlight. In the blink of an eye, the creature was in the village and tearing people to shreds as they screamed in terror, tried to defend themselves or flee...only to be cut down by the razor sharp talons of the creatures. Angela, for once in her long journey, began to feel palen by this slaughter.

Beside her, the medicine man watched with an unflinching mask of sadness.

"I'm sorry but our story must be told. The child that was buried this night under this moon is the creature that is locked away in Castle Rock today," the man said as the sceen began to fad away. Angela watched as her stomach began to settle. The sceen is back to present day and even after all this time, Angela can still make out the blood stains of the creature's first victims.

"Angela Angel. I know of your history with this creature and all the hardhsips you've been through. The creature gets its power from the blood and fleash of men but it also weakens him at the same time. The blood gives him power but the fleash weighs him down. By not feeding him, you will return him to the state of birth and you will finally be able to destroy him," the man said.

"But," Angela said sternly, knowing that there's a catch...there's ALWAYS a catch (pouts).
The old man sighs heavily at this.

"Three must die \, but not by the creature's hands. Already one has died, the young onwe with the mark over the cliff," the old man said and Angela gasped as the boy's image flashed through her mind.

"It...I...I can't take innocent lives. Hwo can you expect me to do that?" Angela asked, stunned at first then insulted.

"You won't, they will occur in their own time. All you have to do is mourn them and use your sword when the time comes for when the other two die, men will be able to arrive on the island of their own accord for the creture will losse his powers over your clan's flying machines. So prepare yourself for the coming fight," the man said and began to fad away.

"WAIT!" Angela shouted and reached out to stop him...

...but she only woke up from her deep sleep and nearly fell out of her hammock.

"AGH!" Simon shouted as he was jolted awake.
"Sorry about that bro," Angela said as she sat and Simon rose an eyebrow.
"Brother," Angela said and Simon understood then. She sighed right then, forgetting just how much she is than her 'brother' Simon.

"Something wrong?" Simon asked.
"I suposse. I had the strangest dream about the people that once lived her and the creaure..." Angela said and began to explain the dream to Simon as the sun rose over the horizon.
