Chapter 6
BPOV
I stared at Carlisle for a moment, unsure of what to say to him. He was clearly as confused as I was.
"Look, this family has been torn apart by tragedy," Alice explained. "We not only lost a brother, we lost a mother as well. While I know no one can replace them, we're not willing to watch you two destroy each other when you clearly have feelings for each other."
"Alice, please..." I started, but she cut me off.
"No, Bella, we're not leaving until you hear us out. We love you, you're a part of this family, and we won't stop you if you decide to leave us to live a human life. But we know that you and Carlisle complete each other, whether you want to believe it or not. I know we're all older than you, but you're more mature than us in some aspect. You've been through hell and back and you're still here, any of us would have tried to end it all after everything you've been through."
"We're a family, Bells, and we want you," Emmett said.
"I'm sorry I've been such a bitch to you lately, Bella, but I do want you to stay," Rosalie added, and I looked at her in shock.
"I'm sorry too, I wish I could take back that day," Jasper put in, remembering my birthday party.
Carlisle hadn't said anything yet.
"I guess you know how I feel," he started. I nodded. "So I guess my question to you, is...will you stay with us? Or will you decide to leave us and tear our family apart? I know you're human, but you're a part of this family."
"Thank you for wanting to keep me, I'd like to stay." I had no idea how I was going to break this to Charlie. It was bad enough when he thought Edward was taking me away from him, but he'd have a stroke about Carlisle.
"You're confused," Jasper said.
"What am I going to say to Charlie?" Emmett cracked up.
"You're over 18, you're a legal adult, there's really not a whole lot he can say about it," Alice added.
"He can kick me out of his house."
"Then you can move in here with us." Me? Live in a house full of vampires? I looked over at Jasper, who shrugged.
"I'll be fine, Bella, I can always go hunt if it gets to be too much. Besides, you probably won't be human forever, right?"
"What are you thinking?" Carlisle asked. I had taken a nap in his room. I refused to go into Edward's room, it brought back too many sad memories.
"It's nothing really, it's just something embarrassing."
"Tell me?" he asked, rubbing my back soothingly.
"It's just, that, if my dad knew I'd lost my virginity to a 300 year old vampire he'd have a heart attack." Carlisle chuckled, and then I dissolved into giggles.
"It's so refreshing to see you laughing again, Bella." I realized how close his face was to mine, and my heart pounding in my chest. Dare I take a chance at love again? I knew I would never forget Edward as long as I lived, but was I capable of letting another one in?
"Bella," Carlisle breathed, as he pulled me into his arms, and we rolled around on the bed. This time he took his time, touching and caressing me everywhere until I was begging him to take me. Our first time had been rushed, forced, but not tonight, tonight he took his time showing me what love really was.
"Carlisle!" I cried out as we came together. I clung to him desperately, not wanting to let him go.
"Mine," he growled, as he bit me on the throat, not hard enough to break the skin, but enough to give me a nice little hickey. I whimpered as he pulled out, but then he rolled over and pulled me on top of his chest, stroking my hair.
"So what are you going to tell Charlie?" he asked. Crap, I had to tell Charlie. I suppose I could lie, but eventually he would find out.
"Shit, I've got nothing."
"We'll figure something out," he assured me, as I drifted off to sleep against his chest.
