Chapter 7
A loud popping noise woke me the next morning. I groaned, rolling over to see Rosalie and Alice getting mad too.
"What the hell is that noise?!" Rosalie demanded, throwing open the back door.
There, in the yard, was Emmett, Jasper, and Edward, throwing firecrackers in the yard. I stumbled to the door, half asleep.
"What are you guys doing?! My aunt and uncle are still asleep, if you wake them up, I swear I won't stop them from killing you."
Too late, my aunt's voice came from the kitchen.
"Girls? What's going on? It sounds like machine guns out here."
"It's fine, Aunt Mary, it's just the guys having a little fun. They came over to wish us a happy 4th of July."
"Humph, well they could have done it a little quieter."
Aunt Mary went ahead and made waffles, which of course the guys helped themselves to. She was chuckling to herself as Emmett and Jasper tried stabbing each other with a fork to get the last one.
"So where are you kids staying this summer? I haven't seen Carlslie or Esme all summer."
"We're staying in a house that they rented for the summer, it's down by the lake. They're supposed to come up today to the party that Aro is throwing for the employees and their families," Edward answered smoothly.
"Oh, yes, Bella did mention that. It's too bad that Tom and I have somewhere else we have to be tonight. We won't be back until sometime tomorrow. I trust that you'll either stay with someone else or stay here alone?" She looked at me when she said it. I swallowed the piece of waffle in my mouth.
"She can stay with us, we have plenty of room," Alice said suddenly. Mary stiffened, wondering for a minute whether to let me stay in a house full of hormonal teenagers with no adult supervision.
"Well I can't really say anything, you're 18, but I trust you won't do anything that will make me send you back to Charlie."
I finished my breakfast and ran up the stairs to brush my teeth, shower, and grab some clothes for tonight.
The amusement park looked strange without the rides running. There was a big sign out front that said Fun Forest Will Be Closed on July 4th for the Holiday and for the Employee Party, regular hours will resume on July 5th. Have a safe and happy 4th of July.
They had pizza delivered around noon, but they had chips, dip, crackers, cheese, sodas, and other snack items throughout the day. I watched as Emmett tried to impress Rose by shoving a whole slice in his mouth, and I tried not to gag.
"You're a pig, Em," Rose chastised. I thought about how cold she'd been to me in school, and how much we'd bonded this summer since I started dating Edward. She wasn't so bad once you got to know her, you just had to get past her cool demeanor. I still laughed about how she got Mike Newton all hot and bothered.
I was standing over by the cheese tray when Edward came over, holding two cans of Coke.
"Thanks," I said, as he handed me one. He was shaking his head and trying not to laugh.
"What?"
"Emmett told me something kind of interesting. It seems you dared Rose to call Mike Newton and have phone sex with him, and that Newton only lasted about a minute."
My face turned bright red as Edward laughed out loud.
"Don't be embarrassed, love, I think it's kind of funny that Newton only lasted a minute. You do realize that if we ever had phone sex, it would last longer than a minute," he said, wrapping his arms around me.
"Why have phone sex when we can have the real thing?" I replied, standing on tiptoe so I could kiss him. He tightened his arms around me as he kissed me back.
"Ugh, get a room you two," Emmett said as he came over to us. Edward growled as he glared at Emmett.
"Like you and Rose don't paw each other in public," he retorted, while Emmett snorted.
Aro opened the roller coaster and had Felix, Demetri, and another maintenance guy run it so we could all go on it. I held on to Edward and screamed the whole time, roller coasters terrified me.
Then we got on the ferris wheel, and when we got to the top, I started to freak out, because I'm afraid of heights, so Edward distracted me. He always knew that I was a little incoherent whenever he was kissing me. A tornado could have come through and I wouldn't have even noticed.
"Oooh, the fireworks are starting," Alice said a little while later. Edward spread a small blanket down on the grass and we laid in each other's arms, watching as the sky lit up with fireworks.
"Happy 4th of July, Bella," he whispered in my ear.
"Happy 4th of July, Edward." He pulled me closer and we lay back on the blanket, oblivious to everyone else watching the fireworks. The only thing I was aware of was Edward's lips on mine, his hands on the small of my back, drawing little circles with his hand. I sighed softly and moved closer to him, wishing I could lay with him like this forever.
I was half asleep by the time we got back to their house. Edward hadn't planned on me almost falling asleep. I realized my slumber party the night before had exhausted me.
"Where are we going?" I asked as he pulled me outside.
"Shh, it's a surprise." I gasped as I saw a thick blanket, along with a picnic basket. Another blanket was curled up next to the basket.
"It's a midnight picnic, I got the idea earlier when we were laying there watching the fireworks."
"You're crazy," I said, shaking my head.
"Only about you." We sat and ate the sandwiches and drank the juice that he'd brought, and then I started to yawn. We lay down on the blanket and he wrapped the other one around us as I curled up next to him. The last thing I remember was him kissing my forehead and whispering that he loved me in my ear.
