7) Innocent Blood

Simon walked through the woods, clearing his mind oh the day's events as his sister Angela stayed at the beach and helped to build a beach side fire, so as they wouldn't have to go up on the moutnian any more. The boys in Ralph's group was afraid that there was a beast up there, even though Angela had explained that it was only a dead man who was taken off the island by the wind. So she was helping to build a fire and she threw in a stone which would keep any fire burning so long as the stone itself was engulfed by flames.

At the same time that the fire raid occured on the beach, Simon was out in the woods clearing his head of the day's events. Both he and Angela could see that things were falling apart and Jack's leaving was just oe more step on the downward spiral. It was at that moment that Simon stopped in his tracks and he sensed that something in this part of the forest had changed. It was deathly qiuet here, there were no birds in the trees above, no bugs on the ground below...even the plants and earth itself seemed quiet.

Simon scanned his eyes around in the heated light of the tropical sun and he soon saw something in the distance that stuck out like a sore thumb in the forest. From where he was, it looked very much like mishapen black licorice placed on a lollopop stick. Simon wrickeled his nose at this analogy yet still ventured closer out of sheer curiosity only to find, much to the delight of his stomach, the sow's head that Jack had left for "the beast".

Simon stepped closer for a deeper examination as something in the back began to warn him about cats and curiosity. When he was almost nose to nose with the head, and was about the touch it with his left hand, the head snorted hot air in his face and Simon scrambled back and away from the supossivly inanimate head.

"What in the..." Simon began to utter but soon stopped when he heard a low laughter come from the mouth of the pig's head. He looked on astonished, bumfounded as to how this could be happening.

"Foolish boy, don't you know you're unwanted here," a voice came from the pig's mouth and a new wave of surprise washed over Simon.

"You're no use to them. You know it and they know it," the head said.
"Who...what are you?"
"That which you see before you is the Lord of the Flies, the source of all your troubles on this 'accursed' island," Lord of the Flies said.

"Pig's head on a stick," Simon said, glaring at the head as a drum began to beat a steady beat in is head, slowly getting louder and stronger as the conversation progressed.

"I'm more than that, I am the beast and a minion of the creture," Lord of the Flies said with a laugh and Simon looked up sharply at the head only to grab the side of his head due to the white sparks that flashed in his eyes as a loud bang made itself known in his head.

"Liar," Simon spat out.
"Truth. It has been here long before you or any of the other boys stepped foot on the island and thusly this is 'his domain', as is the girl," the head said and Simon looked up at the head confussed.

"Angela?" Simon asked and the head seemed to nod.
"It knows everything that goes on on this island, including what you two do at night," the head said and Simon looked at Lord of the Flies, confussed once again.

"Leave and go back to Ralph, forget her and forget about this. Just have fun like Jack and..."
"No," Simon said and the head jumped in surprise. As Simon glared at it, the head grinned darkly.

"They know you know, about your...mental stability," the head said and Simon's eyes grew a size larger, making the head smile a bit more.

"But that's not what you want them to think now do you? Why not just go down there and have all sorts of fun? You can't escape you know, if you run all you find is me. So don't spoil our fun or we'll get you, we all will. Do the same to you as what was done to me," the head said as it seemingly grew larger and Simon could see itself trapped inside its putrid mouth as stick black fluids dripped down on him moments before he was swallowed whole...and then her blacked out...

Back at the beach, Angela sat with the Little 'uns, telling them stories after the chaos of the raid in an attempt to calm them down. Tay say seemed to be passing pretty quickly as the sky overhead began to fill with dark clouds that were fat with rain. She heard Piggy and Ralph comment on the rain but she knew that the five shelters would protect them from it...it was Simon that was what she worried about as the minuets slipped through her hands like sand...no. more like the water that surrounded the island. While the rain was weclomed for a cool shower, it was also a forboding sign of something bad that was to happen, and it bothered Angela.

As the sun sank behind the horizon, the creature paced back and forth in his small cave that once belonged to Angela. The moment that the sun was gone, the creature gave the barrier one good body check and it shattered like glass. With a evil grin, the creature ran off into the dark woods and towards the beach where Ralph's lot waited unsuspectingly for him...but he would never make ti to the beach for half way there he ran into Angela who stood ready for a fight with a glave on hand.

"Well, long time no see my dear," the creature said with a savage grin.
"Best days of my life," Angela said, hands tightening on the glave.
"Yes, remind me to 'thank you' for that after I gorge myself on those boys on the beach."
"I'm sorry, but I can't allow you to do that."
"What makes you think that you can stop me?"
"Many things that you wouldn't understand," Angela said and made the frist move.

At the same moment, the chill of the night woke Simon from his deep sleep and with a shiver he picked himself up ohe ghe ground. The buzz of flies reminded him of what had occured around the middle of the day and he looked to see the Lord of the Flies, seemingly laughing siletnly at him. Simon was sickened by the sight of it and his feet quickly took him away from it. The distance closed grew between the two and Simon headed for the beach yet rather than honeing in on the camp, his eyes found firelight and he honed in on that instead...

Simon bursted out of the forest and right into the middle of the frenzied dance that was Jack's tribe. Simon only had a mere moment to look at this in shock before he was attacked by the whole lot of Jack's tribes and their wodden spears...

Angela was in the middle of fighting the creature when a sense of dread came over her.
'Simon,' Angela thought as her eyes grew wide in shock. The creature saw this and stopped fighting with an evil grin, knowing what had happened.

"Go to him, while you can," the creature said as he gestured in the direction of the fire. Angela's eyes grew wider as she completely forgot about the creature and made a mad dash for the fire. When she bursted out into the woods and onto the beach, the area was silent save for the sounds of the crackeling fire and the tide. The boys were all pale and in shock as they stared out into the waters where Simon layed dead from all the stabs. Angela looked on in pure shock as her glave fell from her hand and it fadded away into stardust before it even hit the sand.

"Simon," Angela whispered, her voice barely audible as the wind blew away what voice she had. At that same moment, a strong tide grabbed Simon's body and began to steal it away.

"NO!" Angela screamed and pulled back her hands as if she was tugging hard on a rope. While her voice shook the living boys out of their shock, her motion created a wave that washed Simon back into the beach. Angela then quickly went out to Simon's body, knelt down and softly craddled it as she stood back up. She looked down at Simon's cold form as the blood still ozzed from his wounds and onto her. She then looked up at the other boys who all took a step away from her as she walked away from the shoreline and back to the woods.

"Boys," Angela said and they all stiffen up in fear, "You have done a serious wrong here tonight...but I am not of clear mind to give you a proper punishment. So just think of what you have done...for now." So with that, Angela went into the woods and buried her beloved claim brother in the nature spot they loved so much. Once the task was done, Angela cleared the tears from her eyes and she turned her sight to the mountian where she knew the creature would be waiting for her...

And he was too, as patiently as he could too. Yet his patience was rewarded at high moon and she entered his cave willingly...with sword in hand and a look of revenge on her face.

"I see you found my gift," the creature said and Angela attacked in a rage as she blindly swung at the creature who dodged every swipe of the blade with ski\n
"\n
"Why? Why Simon?" Angela demanded angrily.
"Because you were with him," the creature said and Angela looked at him confused.
"Excuse me?"
"Don't act innocent, I have eyes all over this island and I know you two spent your nights together in the area I despise the most," the creature said with a sneer.

"BAKA! He was my brother!" Angela shouted as she thrusted forward only to be disarmed and tripped up so that she was sprawled face down on the ground.

"You're brother? But..."
"We claimed each other as brother and sister, and we regarded each other as such even though he's my great grandson," Angela said as she slowly got up to sit with her legs underneath her, not bothering to look up as the tears fell down her face, "and you took him away, just like my son," she said as she hung her head down and sobbed. The creature merely stood there and watched this display emtoion as it confussed and tugged on long forgotton memories at the same time. When Angela was done crying for theent, ent, she got up on her feet and began to walk away.

"Where are you going?" he asked.
"Out and away from you," Angela said, not bothering to look at him as she walked past him.
"No," the creature said and sharply grabbed Angela by the wrist, which resulted in her hissing in pain.

"You will stay. If you don't, I will have my feast tonight...on 'both' tribes," the creature said. Angela looked up at him in wide eye shock.

"You wo't."'t."
"Try me."

Angela bit her lower lip in thought for a moment before she finally agreed to stay the night. Once he knew she was staying, the creature let go of her wrist, which was now red from being gripped so hard and there was a couple pin pricks from the tips of what one would call claws.

As the night slowly passed, Angela was puzzeled. If that piolet was the second death, then after Simon's death she should have been able to defeat the creature. Then about an hour or so before dawn, it hit her...

'The piolet wasn't the second death because he didn't die on the island...so that makes Simon the second and that means there's one more to go...oh dear gods, how much longer am I going to be able to stand this?' Angela thought as she sat in almost Indian style with her back to the wall of the cave while the creature watched her, not liking how deep in silent thought she was and knew he was going to have to watch his back more in the coming days...
