Mercedes POV
I was waiting for the doctor to call my name as i read through some stupid magazine about anorexic models. But i wasn't really focusing too much on the magazine, i was too anxious about visiting the doctor. I had been pregnant for a little while now, about 3 months, and the doctor said today she would most likely be able to tell me the sex of the baby. I was so excited. I couldn't wait until i could see me and James' baby on that small screen again. I also couldn't wait to go home later and tell my mother and James the good news (he was out hunting..animals not humans). I still couldn't believe the turn around my mother had made.
Flashback (still Mercedes POV)
I was pacing around my room, something i seemed to be doing more often now a days, trying to figure out a good way to now tell my mother we were expecting a new member of the family. 'Well i might as well just get it over with, hopefully she's not too drunk to listen to me', i thought bitterlly.
Making my way down the stairs, i quitely walked into the living room, still debating on how to approach my mother.
"Um..mom..you awake?", i asked tentively.
"Mmhh..yea baby", she answered soberly..surprisingly.
"Uh..i got some..good news.", i said, pausing to make sure she was still following.
"Yea what's that?", she asked now turning to face me.
"Um..i..i'm pregnant", i answered. 'Oh god, please don't blow up at me', i prayed in my head, closing my eyes.
Opening them, i was greeted with the most surprising thing i had ever seen. She was smiling and what i presumed to be happy tears were trailing down her face. But she was smiling. Something i hadn't seen her do in...ever. I was shocked to say the least. The shock only grew when she slowly stood up from her seat, walked over to me....and took me in her arms. It took me a minute, but it finally hit me that my mother was actually being a mother, for the first time. I wrapped my arms around her tightly as the tears began pouring out of my own eyes. We stood like that for what seemed like forever. It was then i knew that everything was going to be all right..no matter what.
End Flashback
"Mercedes Gonzalez?", yelled the nurse, breaking me away from my memories.
"Yea that's me", i said standing up and making my way over to her.
"She'll see you now", she said smiling kindly at me.
.....
"Oook. So how's the mommy to be and baby been since our last visit?", Doctor Leigh asked.
"Good. I'm just really anxious to see everything is ok and see what we're having", i said smiling in excitement.
"Where's James", she asked curiously.
"Oh, he had to go..shopping.", i said hoping she bought the half lie.
She did, thankfully, and began preping me for my ultrasound. She put that cold gunk on my stomach and put the wand on my small bump.
Looking over at the screen, my breath left me as i stared at the bundle of joy that was slowly growing inside me. I mean i wasn't naive to think this was all going to be cookies and cream. Raising a child was hard, but for right now, looking at me and James' baby, i decided things could be pretty easy for right now.
"Do you want to hear the heartbeat?", she asked smiling at that wonderous look i knew i had on my face.
I didn't answer but nod animatedly. She just chuckled and and flipped a switch on the machine. Then the most beautiful sound i had ever heard filled the room.
..thump thump..thump thump..
'So that's what it sounds like', i thought.
"Everything sounds and looks good. Your baby is perfectly healthy", she said smiling widely at me.
I nooded my head, tears quickly filling my eyes at the sound of the baby's heart and of the good news.
"Well if you're ready, i can tell you what your having".
I nodded once more. For some reason i couldn't quite find my voice. I was still in shock from the beauty of what i just heard.
"There she is, there's your baby girl", said Doctor Leigh.
"OH MY GOD!!!! IT'S A GIRL!!!", i yelled happily. I just felt like getting up and jumping around while squeling like a school girl.
She nodded, laughing. "Yup", she confirmed, "your having a baby girl. So you're all done here, you know the drill. Just talk to the receptionist and schedule another appointment in a couple weeks. See you then. Bye", she said giving me a small congratulatory hug and walking off to her next appointment.
I quickly cleaned myself up, set up a new appointment, and made my way home. I couldn't wait to tell ma and James the news.
