Phone Call

Author's Notes: Sorry for such short chapters, guys! I'm really trying to crank out as much of this as I can before I go back to work after my long vacation! I don't even have enough time to edit this, much less beef it up! I promise that I'll get as much done as I can so that even though the chapters are short, the story will end up long. I might fuse a few of the chapters together, at some point, but until then, all the chapters will probably be short. I'm so sorry, but I'm so thankful for the views and reviews! Thank you so much!

RESPONSE TO REVIEWS

FallenAngel2010: Thanks! I'm kind of enjoying it myself. I've never written anything that wasn't based off of an RP before, so I'm glad that every one is liking this so much! Thank you very much for the review! :D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I spent the next two days trying to come up with a letter of apology to Amelia, but everything I wrote came out sounding corny and terrible, like one of those cheesy romance movies from the fifties. After I crumpled the millionth piece of paper and chucked it to the floor to join the others, I heard the phone ring. Billy was over at Charlie's for the night, and I wondered if it was Billy calling for a ride. I picked up the phone with a very gruff greeting, half sprawled across my bed to reach it from the side table.

"Hello?"

The other end was silent for a minute, and I repeated my greeting with a little more force. I swore that if it was a telemarketer, I would reach through the phone and strangle him.

"Uhm... M... May I... May I speak with Jacob Black, please?"

The voice was small and frail, squeaking like a frightened little mouse on the other end, and I realized that it was Amelia. I instantly regretted the gruff tone I had taken, but was quiet for a moment.

"Uh... Yeah, you've got 'im. Who's this?"

I tried to sound nonchalant, like I didn't know who it was. Amelia was quiet, and I used the time to dig around in my head for an apology that would excuse my actions. I still hadn't found anything when she identified herself.

"It's Amelia Clearwater... I... Uhm... I..."

Amelia stammered over the phone, and I could hear Phil in the background trying to coach her into asking me over for dinner. I knew it was a bad idea, and I interrupted her before she could spit the invitation out.

"Hey, Amelia... I... Hey, I'm sorry about the other day. I... I had a lot on my mind, I didn't mean to freak out like that. You must not be used to meeting new people, and I was a real jerk."

It was easier to talk to her on the phone than I thought it would be; I'm sure it went a lot smoother than it would if I'd been talking to her face-to-face. I still wasn't sure if I was ready for that step, though.

"It's... Okay. I forgive you."

Amelia's forgiveness sounded a little forced, but sincere, nonetheless. Either Amelia was a really good liar, or she was just so timid that it ended up sounding strange.

"My father... He... He wants to know... Ifyou'dliketojoinusfordinnertonight."

Amelia's invitation was strung together at the end, as though she were just trying to get it out of her mouth before she lost the nerve altogether; it reminded me of a shy girl asking her crush if he'd go to prom with her. It made me chuckle, and I instantly regretted it, wishing I could reach out and grab the laughter out of thin air and shove it back into my mouth. I'm sure it sounded as though I were laughing at the invitation itself. I quickly responded.

"Oh, I wasn't laughing at you, Amelia! I... Uhm... I..."

I was trying to find an excuse not to go, and quickly found the only scapegoat I could think of.

"... I'm not feeling too well. I'm sick. I promise to catch up with you later, though!"

I quickly said my farewells to the mousey-voiced girl on the other end and threw the phone back onto the cradle. I breathed a sigh of relief, but wondered how much longer I could pull of being 'sick' before I would actually have to confront her. It would have been so much easier if she were visiting, but she LIVED in La Push. I was terrified of what I would do to her if I were left alone with her for any length of time. I lay back on my bed, unzipped my pants, and went to work ridding myself of the painful erection her voice had caused. I stuck with the same fantasy of her that I had used in the shower, and within minutes, I was relieved of the painful throbbing in my testicles.

I felt dirty, but after I cleaned up, I resolved myself to following Edward's advice. He'd said to court her with flowers and letters, so I would do just that. I would try to impress her and coax her into a relationship with me, even if it ended badly. I immediately set to calling Bella, asking if she, Alice, Rosalie, and Esme would be willing to teach me what I needed to do to get a girl's attention. I was a little embarrassed, but they were all free on Saturday. I just needed to wait a few more days, and I was sure that I could do it. At the end of Saturday, my mind would be transformed into the ultimate love-machine! No one would be able to resist my charms, and Amelia would be mine before the end of the following week!

Once you go Black, you never go back!
