It was all her fault.

It was over. Time for him to go. It's not like there was anything left for him. Not with those humans that couldn't possibly understand him, nor accept the monster that had grown too close to his heart to pull away from.

And especially not when Elena was in his saintly brother's arms. That seemed to be a pain too unknown, and that fear that caused him was too much for him to bear.

He didn't like it. The feeling, the desire to be a part of something good. It just didn't seem to be part of his nature.

The corners of his lips curved downward, marring his perfect pale face with a frown. A part of him wished he could have stayed, but it felt wrong somehow. Not just from the friction it would cause with his inner nature, but from the memory this whole endeavor brought forth. The memory of the one with the violet gaze that seemed to pierce right through his shields, and the fine copper-colored hair that had felt like silk beneath his fingertips.

If he had been a less-restrained, more savage creature, he may have growled at the unwanted thoughts. But no, all it seemed he was capable of was clenching his fists until the knuckles cracked, and slowing his stride.

After all this time- okay, it had only been a year, but it felt so much longer to him- he still could not shake her from his mind.

/Phenex./

The name was like a caress to his mind, like a lover's sigh. The innocence he'd seen shattered had only instilled a greater lust inside of him. And her refusal of him...

No, power had not been what enticed her. Nor any other sin he could see. But then what drove her?

He let out a hiss of breath, his fist knocking into an Oak tree. It doubled over at the force, cracking in two. And of course, now he had splinters of wood gouging into his hand. How pleasant.

It was /her/ fault, his mind instantly provided. It was always her fault. Nothing had gone wrong, he'd always been flawless, until she'd popped into his life. For the thousandth time, he found himself wondering what his life- or unlife, as it was- would be like if he'd never gone to that ball, to her initiation.

What was it about her that riled him so?

He almost did growl this time, so frustrated was he.

He'd always been able to read people. He knew what drove every one of their pathetic lives, even those of the humans rejoicing back in the meadow. Hell, he'd even managed to read Elena. But that witch... He had no way of knowing, well, anything. He hadn't seen her or heard even one word from her or the she-devil, Constance, since the ill-fated Midsummer night. And believe him, he'd tried, to the best of his extent, to get a hold of her, but her wards were unbelievably strong. The Dubuios estate had never been more foreboding.

And so he'd given up, came to Fell's Church in hopes of a distraction. And it had worked, with the failed seduction of Elena and his goading of his little brother. But then she'd begun to haunt his dreams, and soon she'd followed him into his waking thoughts. Not even the fair Elena could distract him now.

At this point, he had no idea what to do with himself. He was on the verge of trying to drown her out with alcohol, though it was doubtful it would work.

It was pitiful. He, the great Damon Salvatore, was being pushed to an alcoholic mess by a slip of a girl. And not even the actual girl, but her memory! It was shameful!

He almost slammed his fist against the hood of his Ferarri, but managed to contain himself. His hand hovered bare inches from the shiny black hood as he contemplated how much damage vampire strength could do to his precious car.

"I thought you loved that car," a soft voice said from the shadows. "It seems a shame to destroy such perfection."

Well, there's the first chapter of the sequel! What do you think? Should I keep going? Any thoughts?
