Back in Black

Faye had decided, after a few months in Vegas, that she should go back to school. Magic was top priority in her life, but she wasn't a stupid girl by any means. If she intended to make as much of a living as she always dreamed of, she'd need all the knowledge she could get, and as trivial as dealing with so many bubbleheaded humans was, it was a necessity in life. How unfortunate for her.

With a distasteful sneer at the building that loomed before her, she slung her messenger bag across her shoulder and started up the path to the school. It was much larger than the high school in New Salem, but she still received the same awed stares as she had back home. That was something she would never mind, as silly as it was. She loved to have people at her beckoning call, and teenagers were the easiest of anyone to manipulate. It would help when she wanted to skip out, when she didn't feel like doing her work, etc. Anything, really. And already she'd picked out a few promising males if she ever needed a night of company or fun.

School, as unfortunate the actual place was, looked like it would be fun for her remaining year.
~
Nick saw no point in returning to school, but his boss at the car shop certainly did. It was either finish high school, start a degree in mechanics, or lose his job. And since Nick couldn't afford to be out a job at the moment, he'd taken the lesser of evils and gone back to high school.

Inwardly groaning, he slammed the door to his rebuilt Mustang shut, and pulled out a cigarette. He wouldn't be able to get away with as much in this school; he'd actually have to show up for class this time, but he'd be damned if they took away his cigarettes. Lighting up, he started down a path towards the overbearing school, glaring at the few girls who dared to make a pass at him. He had no interest in any of them. The only girl that had sparked his interest had been Cassie, and look where it had gotten him. Nowhere.

Shoving past a crowd of confused looking freshman, and threw open the main entrance and stalked towards his first class. No office trip for him just yet. He'd made sure to get his schedule and memorize the layout of the school beforehand just to save himself the pain. First up, English Literature, 101. What a fucking joy.

That too was another door he threw open, and slammed his half-empty bookbag on the back table. He thought he would get by just fine in his poor mood, surrounded by idiots and no magic... But that was before SHE entered the room, drawing all attention as usual and enjoying every minute of it. Great. He just had to pick the city where she was, and the same school, same class, nonetheless. As if he wasn't in a bad mood already. Now it was just foul.

Ducking his head, and pretending to be reading the assigned literature, he prayed- to whatever God garnered over fools such as himself- that she wouldn't notice him.
~
Faye enjoyed the stares and catcalls she received walking into the classroom, but what she enjoyed even more was to see her very own, Nicholas Armstrong, trying to hide behind the pretense of reading. As if that boy read! Smirking with the delight of seeing her old boy toy, she sauntered over to where he sat, leaning a hip against his desk.

With the tip of a red-polished fingernail, she pushed his book down on the table to gain his attention- though she was sure she'd had it the moment she'd entered the classroom. "Why, if it isn't little Nick out to play with the big bad real world," she purred, just waiting to flare his temper. She loved his temper. It was one of the things that had excited her when they'd been together... off and on... and off again. "What, the covenant of love and light not satisfying your tastes anymore? Or perhaps it was watching that sickening paragon of virtue Adam parade around with our dear, sweet Cassie that had you running?"

Oh, she most enjoyed teasing him. Perhaps this school year would be more entertaining than she thought.
~
Nick continued to stare at his book without really seeing it. That was until he head the pages start to rip at the binding with how hard he was clutching it. By then, he was seeing red and his jaw was clenched so hard that sharp pains were shooting across his face and down his neck.

It was with great restraint that he managed to look up at her, and then he was sure the look in his eyes screamed murder as he said, "Go to hell, Faye."

This is all an excerpt from an LJS rpg I run on proboards... Got three members, woo! Well, at least that means there's a zillion canon characters that are free... and not much to catch up on. I hate having to catch up on storylines. I'm a taaaaad lazy. The links under homepage, if any o' you people should want to check it out. If you do, I'll love you forever... and then there may be free cookies involved. You never know... :)
