Disclaimer: I do not own or have any professional affiliation with the Twilight Universe. I make no money from this story as it is just for my own enjoyment.
This fic will be pretty hefty, and with so many thoughts and ideas flowing through my mind I doubt that my posts will be far apart. I will keep posting chapters until it is finished... This is a mystery pairing, but it will be resolved rather quickly, especially if you know your characters!
Please review! They are like gasoline for my writing machine. Though, I will happily run on vegetable oil if it means I can get this story written out.
Here we go....
Magical Memory
Prologue: Circles
Was my birthday just a month ago? It really didn’t feel like it. In a way it seemed like the Ridiculous Life of Bella Swan just experienced the worst year, rather than the most heart-wrenching month ever lived. In a way it seemed like she must have had a few lifetimes in there to have experienced this amount of insanity.
But her soul felt as if this has happened in just a few short minutes. Torn apart, ripped to shreds, left to chill in the forest. Left to ignore reality. Left to ignore herself, her love, and everything she had finally come to be. Edward Cullen’s mate, His little piece of humanity. She belonged with him and they belonged together. Forever.
As long as forever meant the amount of time it took for him to let his insecurities get to him. By then, of course, he’d drop her like she had the plague. Shut her out of his mind, out of his life, and do his best convince her to do the same.
That happened. Except for the fact that his best was really a load of shit and she would have preferred the truth. Even a jaded version of the truth. Even a logic puzzle of the truth, because then maybe she could figure it out on her own, instead of being told what to think. And what to do. She would have had a life of obedience with him.
Love and obedience. As if he were God.
She would have loved that; to live in his shadow. To be a part of his family. To be someone who could easily abandon reality and move along without a care in the world who was hurt or left behind. That was her dream, to join the Cullens leaving her mundane existence to live out the best ever devised. Immortal, beautiful, and in love. Forever.
That would have sufficed to keep her happy until another James came along to kill her and she was caught alone. Even with vampire abilities she trusted she’d still end up weak. It’d be just her luck.
And now her heart and center, cut up into little pieces and mildly preserved, was hurt again. After having been ever so gently tended to by another waiting in the shadows to strike, though slowly, it had been abandoned yet again. Who would have thought it could have ended up like this?
Time changes things, perspectives and really gives a narrative story chock full of emotions and scars. She could see this one, slashed nastily across her midriff, invisible to everyone else. And right now it’s gaping black and red…
How about some grief Bella? A tall mug of that… Perhaps some fear, dished out in these tiny little shots, but delivered aplenty. And a pretty umbrella drink of retching, stinging, bleeding pains. I don’t think you’ve gasped for air nearly enough tonight. Choke some more please… It surely is entertaining.
There must be someone out there watching this show, with enough drama and angst to fill a vineyard. Some sick freak orchestrating this story, because Bella was swimming in her own pieces when she first met the Cullens, and just as she thought the paste was drying quite nicely, someone decided to peel it all off for fun. And then try to stick it back together again… only for it to come undone again.
Someone is certainly recording this mess on their TiVo. Getting a real kick out of a story about a twice-scorned woman with a food processed heart.
And although it seems like a visit from Victoria may not be the best thing on Bella’s current agenda, it wouldn’t be unwelcome. Perhaps it would help, and after the initial torture sure to be in store, death would be her final reward. Maybe if she’s really lucky, she’d get the immortality kind with the works: humans for the taking, strength for the beating, and indifference for the hurt she’ll induce.
And maybe in her newborn insanity, she’d see red until everyone who had ever hurt her was dead in one way or another. An army of one…
In her current state she could quite possibly hurt a werewolf pretty badly with a knife… But still wouldn’t be able to hold a semi automatic to a vampire. It would be a waste of time and bullets.
She needed to take care of herself, and figure out what the hell was up with all the waking up in various states of undress in the middle of the woods!
