But tragedy, it seems, is making them feel things neither suspected... Warnings: implications of slash, spoiler as to the ending of Bram Stoker's DraculaA/N: This is the fic that shouldn't have been. My first ever with writing about something like this. There's as much of the actual novel by Stoker as the Coppola film behind this. * * * * *It was as much about pursuing the atrocity of a man, the inhuman beast, as it was of them both trying to deny what they felt. The sorrow which they shared over Lucy's death had drawn them together more tightly and made something happen which both strove to deny. Such a thing was unheard of and unseemly. It wasn't how two well brought up young gentlemen should feel!Yet danger threw them together and chipped at the moral standards according to which they had been raised. Making them wish, desire for something which was unattainable. Something which quarrelled against all their beliefs. The feeling haunted them, making both want to hide. And at the same time touch, break the shallow shell of camaraderie and turn it into something neither could describe. Or admit to wanting. Needing. Desiring. Half-spoken sentences, abortive actions, glances which lingered far too long, silences stretching over to unite them in mutual solitude. Both so hard trying to run away from the truth locked deep within, the love which dared not speak it's name or act. Shrouded, scared and selfish. Love for a dear dead girl keeping them apart. To honour her memory they could not succumb. They had only one task, a task which both wished would not end because in the end lay separation. Once the task was done both would be going home and would not have the opportunity to be around one another and deny their affections. And in the end, the young lord Godalming wished that he'd acted on his desires, even once. To him, their revenge on Dracula was hollow. For he'd lost twice. Even when he'd been denying it vehemently the second time around. Having dodged the truth even when it had haunted his very dreams. He never loved again.
