Growing Fast

DerekxChloe

First chapter is short just to get a feel of someone elses characters. Never easy for me.

Derek had been avoiding me for days, and I couldn't figure it out. Things were quieter now, running away was easy, well, as easy as it could get. With Mr. Bae around, and Aunt Lauren, we didn't have to be on edge every second of the day. Specially since the heat was going to be off us for a while.

Maybe that's what's bothering him, not being on edge.

He talks to everyone else though.

I looked out the window of the small cottage that Kit owned, he'd got given it by a friend many years ago right before he died, so no one knew about it. We were so far from Buffalo now I didn't dare thinking about it.

Derek, Simon and Tori were outside, making the most of the brief sun we were getting. Tori and Simon were bouncing around a ball, I wouldn't have pegged Tori to be the basketball type but hey, we'd all changed in the last month. Then my eyes fell on Derek, as they had to many times in the last hour that I'm sure the image of him, in the same position reading a book sat under a tree was now permanently etched into the back on my eyelids, but I couldn't help it, I wanted him.

“Chloe?” I jumped out of my skin for a moment. Aunt Lauren was stood in the doorway looking worried. “Oh.” I breathed. She walked in. “It's only me, sorry to scare you hun.” As she sat down beside me she gave me a quick one arm hug. She seemed to be in a lighter mood since Derek hasn't been hovering around me recently, I hated that in every way.

“I saw you were sat alone and wondered if you needed to talk to me.” She smiled in that friendly way, which in the last two weeks has been a cover up of some unknown emotion, one that seemed to want the old, helpless Chloe back, the one that always wanted to be taken care of. I shook my head. She frowned. “Nothings wrong.” I said simply. “Just have a headache so I came to sit up here out of everyone's way.” It wasn't a total lie, I did have a headache but it was caused by Derek and why he was avoiding me. She looked me over for a few seconds, sighed and nodded. Offering me some pain killers before she left.

I resisted the urge to turn back and look out the window, but only for a millisecond before I couldn't help but sneak a peek. I darted a look around when I noticed Derek was no longer there, didn't even cross my mind that Tori and Simon were bickering, yet again. Just then I head a creak and the door down the call close.

Derek?

Probably.

Go talk to him then.

What if he doesn't want to?

Then make him!

I certainly wasn't the type to be a cow about it, I couldn't help thinking I'd done something wrong though. So I got up off the little love seat that was sat between me and Tori's beds and walked out of the room, creeping slowly down the hall.

Why on earth are you sneaking?

Oh shut up. I continued until I was literally nose to nose with Derek and Simon's bedroom door. It was creaking, very faintly and I heard light panting. I worried, what if he was changing again and trying to brave it alone? They were easier now but he still came to get me.

“Derek?” I asked out, is the tiniest voice I could have possibly given out. All I got was a rough grunt. I wanted to slam through the door but from what I could tell, he was leaning on it.

“Derek?” I said a bit louder than I was meant to. He yelped and banged against the door before cursing under his breath. “Oh god, Derek are you okay? I didn't mean to startle--” He shifted behind the door. “It's okay Chloe.” He said softly. It was a kind tone that made me want to go in there and say I was sorry for whatever I did wrong. “Can I come in?” I barely whispered. I didn't realise he was sat down because I heard him get up and cross the room. “Sure.” replying as a mutter. I turned the knob slowly and peeked in. He was sat on the edge of his bed looking a bit anxious.

Oh god what if it's because he hates me?

He could be changing you daft girl.

That was a point. So I crept in, mentally telling my subconscious off for calling me daft.

“Are you okay? Are you, changing?” I said the last part in a whisper, no idea why, everyone knew it was happening, I just thought Derek might not like all the attention Mr. Bae and everyone else were giving him. Derek glanced at me through his long hair and mumbled what seemed like a no and by the looks of it I believed him, no muscle trembling, itching, sweating or fever. Though he did seem a bit red. The anxiety wasn't helping me either. So I walked up to him slowly easing my arm out to touch his forehead, the moment my skin met his, he flinched. He actually flinched. I quickly put my arm down, he really did hate me.

“Okay then.” I smiled as best I could before turning and walking out the room. I'm pretty sure I felt him try and grab the back of my shirt but dismissed it as wishful thinking.

Pretty sure it's rubbish but still. Just having a bit of fun, it gets more interesting. ;)
