Part Ten

Bella POV

I left Jacob feeling down. I kissed him goodbye and told him I loved him, but it felt like he had almost made my decision for me. I knew what I was going to do but I didn’t know if I had the strength to do it. I didn’t think I could live without either of them.

I went home to make Charlie dinner. I put in extra effort knowing he was probably not happy with the amount of time I was spending out all night. Alive had been my saving grace last night and called Charlie saying that we had gone shopping and then been watching a film when I fell asleep. She asked if I’d had a late nigh the night before and Charlie had told her Jacob’s version of what had happened when Bella “fell” off of the cliff. She also asked if I could stay because Carlisle didn’t like the idea of me driving home so tired. Charlie had agreed with all of it happily. However I knew he was worried I was spending so much time out of the house.

I sat with Charlie while we ate and we talked about our days.

“So the Cullen’s are back in town, eh?” he asked. “You be careful Bells”

“I am Dad. They’re a lovely family. Alice and Edward are really good friends of mine.” I replied. “Actually, I was planning on stopping by theirs after school tomorrow.”

“Don’t you go and forget Jacob now that Cullen boy is back in town.” Charlie said.

“I won’t Dad; I was at La Push just this afternoon.” I replied.

“Good, that boy thinks the world of you.” He told me, giving me that knowing look.

“I know Dad.” I replied, hoping that he wasn’t going to be asking anymore questions.

After dinner I went up to my room to find Edward led on my bed. I saw his nose twitch briefly as I walked into the room and I guessed that he could smell Jacob’s scent all over me, but he didn’t say anything.

“Bella, we have a problem.” Edward said, softly.

“What is it?” I asked, concern flashing across my face.

“We’re not sure yet...” he replied uneasily. “But there’s been another vampire in your room.”

“Victoria?” I asked, my voice cracking as it came out. I trembled slightly at the thought and went to sit next to Edward on my bed.

“No.” He replied. “It’s not a scent I recognise. The most worrying thing is that Alice didn’t see it.” He took my hands in his and held them tightly.

“What does that mean?” I asked quietly.

“We’re not sure, we have a couple of theories.” He said. “Either...for some reason they’re like the werewolves and can’t be seen. Or they are immune to supernatural gifts. Or they have a werewolf with them, which is very unlikely...”

“Why does it feel like there’s about to be a worse theory?” I asked.

“The most concerning theory is that maybe...maybe they know about us. Know about all of us and Alice’s visions. So they are able to find holes in them. For example they were in your room but they didn’t do anything to you or Charlie. Maybe they know how to keep Alice blind.” He said. I shuddered at the thought of a strange vampire in my room. “You should get some sleep. We will be keeping watch over you until we’re sure. Emmett and Rosalie are out there right now. Jasper and Carlisle are going to take over around two.”

I didn’t argue with him. I was too tired to argue. I went to grab my hair brush and then my pyjamas. However I couldn’t find them. My pyjamas weren’t under my pillow. I felt a chill run through me and I looked around the room more closely. My clothes from when I got in yesterday morning weren’t sat on the chair as they were when I left them. I quickly left the room to check the washing basket. Not these either. I returned to Edward who looked suspicious, confused and concerned.

“Some of my clothes are missing.” I said. “My pyjamas and clothes I had on when I first got in yesterday aren’t here.” Edward growled under his breath and clenched his fists.

“The vampire that was here didn’t come to harm you.” He muttered. “He was here to collect your scent.” I couldn’t help but shudder at the thought of a vampire breaking in and stealing my worn clothes.

“What are we going to do?” I asked him. He pulled me into his arms and held me close.

“I’ll ring Carlisle and tell him but for now we just sit tight and keep watch.” He replied. “You don’t need pyjamas right this second anyway.” He smirked. “I’ll be waiting for you when you get out the shower.”

I left him on my bed and went to shower. The warm water running over my skin was calming. I couldn’t forget the threat that loomed ahead but it was a distraction from it at least. I got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around me to go back to my room.

When I walked in Edward was on the phone to Carlisle filling him in. I waited for him to hang up before kissing him lightly on the lips. Before I could think Edward had grabbed me and had me pinned on my back on the bed. He hovered over me and bent to place kisses on my neck and face. He unravelled my towel to reveal more skin for him to kiss.

His kisses ran down across my stomach and then he knelt on the floor to kiss from my knees up my thighs. He placed on kiss between them before moving up my stomach again. I whimpered at his kisses, making me so sensitive without touching where I wanted him to most. Somehow I knew that he was planning on making every second of the night count.
