The Kiss
Chapter Two: The Kiss
Every night from that day onwards, Susan left her door unlocked as she changed. She had hoped Peter would walk in during his rounds to ensure everyone was going to bed. She had hoped he would see her in all her beauty and be unable to hold back his true feelings any longer. But he would simply knock on the door and remind her to go to sleep. Every morning during breakfast, she would stare at him and he would occasionally look back very nervously, as if her stare would give him the black plague. Whenever they went outside to play, she would try to get some alone time with him, but never could. Days passed. Days rolled into weeks. Weeks rolled into months. After so much time, Susan was beginning to give up hope. Until finally, one cold December day, fortune struck.
They had all wanted to go outside and play in the snow, but the fact was the snow was coming down far too hard to see and there was decent sized hail falling with it. So they once again opted to play hide and seek. This time, as badly as Susan didn't want to leave Peter, she immediately went to the guest bedroom on the topmost floor of the house and hid under the bed. She wasn't quite sure how long she'd been hiding, but she figured it had been at least twenty or so minutes before she heard footsteps coming down the hall. She held her breath, listening intently as the door slowly creaked open.
"Hello? Anyone here?" came Peter's voice.
She watched as he made his way to the middle of the room. She wanted to jump out at him, wanted to do things their parents certainly wouldn't approve of, right there and then. But she was afraid. Afraid of her feelings. Afraid of what would come from doing such a thing.
"Guess not." Peter sighed.
She couldn't take it any longer. Susan leapt out from under the bed and pinned Peter against the wall.
"W-What are--?"
She let out a soft 'shh' as she leaned in. Their lips met, hugging, groping, pushing against one another in a beautiful dance of romance. Her lips fell slowly, exhaling softly. They hung upon his lower lip, quivering, trapped in the ecstasy of the moment. She pulled back slowly, gently kissing his lip as she did so. Standing there, she stared up at him with great joy. But joy quickly turned to fear, and the sparkle of wonder in her eyes turned into the gleam of tears. Susan bolted out of the room, tears streaming down her face, head buried in her hands. What had she done? She'd gone and kissed her own brother. She was fantasizing about making love to him.
"I'm sick." She muttered as she entered her room.
Throwing herself upon the bed, she buried her face in her pillow and wailed. She couldn't take it anymore. These feelings she had for Peter were driving her insane. She wanted him, but she wanted to kill herself for having a relationship with her own brother. She couldn't stand it. She hurled the pillow across the room in fury and sat on the edge of the bed, wiping away tears to make way for the flood of new tears.
"Susan?" Peter said softly as he entered the room.
She grabbed her other pillow and tossed it at him. He caught it and set it down gently on the floor.
"What do you want?" Susan sobbed.
Peter silently made his way across the room. He placed his hand gently beneath her chin, tilting her head back slightly, and kissed her. His tongue danced wildly in her mouth, at first kind of awkwardly moving around her tongue until at last she began to use it as well, and the two danced the most beautiful, most tantalizing dance Susan had ever known.
"That was amazing." She whispered as they pulled away from one another.
Peter smiled and leaned in once more.
