Broken

When I arrived at the Cullen's Alice was waiting outside for me. Her face holding an unreadable expression. Edward quickly appeared at her side. When I got out and walked to the porch I heard him speaking much to fast for me to understand.

"Did I miss a party or something?" I joked seeing how off Alice was acting. He said something quickly once again and was at my side.

"No.We just missed you!" She said instantly perking up and running over at human speed to hug me.

"Let's go inside" Edward said pulling me from her grasp and into the house. Once inside I pulled away from him.

"What's wrong with you? You're acting weird." I said studying his face for any sign of what was on his mind "Listen. If you're mad at me cause I want to have sex then just say it. I'm sorry I want to be able to sleep with my husband"

He mask crumbled before my eyes for a few moments, then it reappeared.

"You think I'm upset because you have hormones?" He said sounding almost angry.

"Why else would you be mad? Unless you're hiding something"

"You think I don't want to? You think I'm not having just as hard of a time as you are? You think I
want to have to tell you no?" His voice rising slightly

"You could, you just won't. You don't want!" Tears were pooling in my eyes now.

"Bella" He put his hands on my arms and tightened them. Not enough to hurt me but enough that he had every once of my attention "I want you more than anything in the world. I married you because I love you. But I can NOT chance hurting you like that. I put you in enough danger"

"You won't hurt me" I said as I said a million time before. Alice gasped from somewhere on the other side of the room, and Edward looked at her with deep concern.

"No, Alice" He said as if pleading with her "Hell no!"

I looked between the two confused. I had never heard Edward curse before and I couldn't imagine what could make him do it now. He letting me go starting towards her.

"I told you. I told you this was bad!" She said desperately as if she were trying to take back whatever she just saw. Before I saw then come in everyone was at Alice's side. Jasper on one side and Esme at the other. Carlisle resting his hand on Edward's shoulder stopping his pursuit

"Son, I know you'd never hurt Alice or Bella. But you need to calm down. We can't figure this out if you're to upset" Carlisle spoke quickly up soothingly

"What did I miss?" Looking at Emmett confused

"They said they burned every piece! Every piece means every piece!" Edward said looking furiously at Carlisle

"Mistakes happen. All we can do now is wait and see what will happen now"

"What if what happens now is him coming for her! She nearly died, Carlisle. We have no idea what could happen now."

"What is going on" I shouted catching their attention, Edward was at my side again holding me for dear life.

"Bella. I'm sorry you had to see all this. We didn't want to tell you till we had to, but I guess that is now. James is still alive. We don't know how or how long he's been since Phoenix." I cringed as Carlisle said his name and clung to Edward tighter till I felt a sharp pain in my arms. I must have let out a cry because Emmett and Jasper were on Edward in an instant holding him, and Esme was pulling me into the other room.

"Where does it hurt?" She said looking me over once we were alone.

"My arms." I said raising my sleeves revealing large purple bruises on both my upperarms.

"Carlisle, come in here" She said barely above a whisper and there he was. "Make sure nothing's broken."

"He didn't mean to. He's just upset" I said trying to pull my sleeves back down.

"I don't think he broke anything but he very well could have if he'd gripped any harder."

"May I ask you something?" I said to no one in particular.

"Anything" They said in unison

"What did Alice see?" My stomach churned in waiting for the answer, as Carlisle and Esme
exchanged looks.

"Alice could you come here for a moment?" Esme spoke up, Alice appearing at her side a few moments later. "What did you see that upset Edward so much?"
Alice looked to the floor and started to fidget her hands not wanting to tell, so Carlisle started.

"Well, for one Bella about 3 days ago Alice saw James. He was obviously alive but we don't know when or where. We don't even know if he's coming here, but Edward is on edge and we're all doing our best to protect each other without going mad waiting to find out" Carlisle looked at Alice to que her to pick up where he left off.

"When we were in the living room I saw him. Only he was covered in blood, and he in very high spirits. I didn't get a look at who he killed or why he seemed so happy."

"And Edward thought it was me." I finished her thought before she could. I felt a knot arise in my stomach. Could it have been me? Would this be my last go around. I'd survived so much the past few years, and met some of the greatest people only to die at the hands of our first foe. I stood up and went outside where Jasper, Emmett, and Edward sat on the porch. Edward started to stand but I forced him back down and sat by him.

"Can you give us a minute guys? Thanks" I didn't wait for an answer, instead I gave them the "go-or-wish-you-would-have" look and they did.

"I'm sorry Bella" He spoke quickly looking at the ground, afraid to face me.

"Don't be. I know you didn't mean to. You were caught up in the vision and didn't know what you were doing."

"But I can't loose control like that. It could have been so much worse." He said as if he were talking to a 5 year old child.

"It will be okay. If he were going to kill me Alice would have seen it by now" I smiled and placed a kiss on his nose "But I should be getting home. Come with me?"

"Not tonight Bella. But Alice will come." He said standing and retrieving the less bouncey pixie from Jasper's grasp. The entire way home Alice was freakishly quite and unnerved.

Yay chapter 2. I swear there will be smut guys. But it's in due time.

Gaps of Misery: I thought the preview idea would be fun. Like to give you guys something to look forward to. And yes. Edward is a smut-spoiler. haha that actually made me laugh.
