Chapter 21 ~ Nightmare

I turned the corner and before me stood the man without a face, his bloody skull grinning at me in its grotesque macabe fashion. I took a step back and I bumped into what I thought was a wall, I placed my right hand back and felt the solid form of a body, a female body. Taking a glance to my side I saw the woman in her blood soaked business dress, her eyes staring at me though they were void of life. I started to breath heavily as if the air was beginning to thin, my heart racing as I tried to find an escape but I was trapped between them. The red bricked alleyway was beginning to shrink, they came closer and closer. There hands out stretched as they reached for me.

The phone rang as I was shaken out of my dream, my heart racing as I still felt the cold numbness of the dead upon my body. I just gazed at thene, ne, my mind still in a daze. It felt so real, I could almost smell the death that lingered around them... My digital clock read seven thirty as I finally snapped out of my haze, it better be important to wake me up from a nightmare. I was glad something of mine still worked after that dream, it felt so real I've had dreams like that before with other murders. They never went away until the case was solved, thats what drove me forward to solve these crimes. For the people involved and to lay the ghosts that dwelled within to rest, nothing more and nothing less. It was my job and sometimes I thought my curse.

I picked up the phone and lay in my bed, my heart beat slowing down as stared at the white ceiling of my room.

"Hello?"

"Good morning sunshine" I shook my head with alittle amusement, it was Alec. A friend who worked as at the Federal Bureau of Investigations connected to the state of California. We were partners in the forceore ore he transferred over to the FBI's sub division in San Francisco. He worked supernatural crimes as well, though I was better.

"Good morning yourself, why are you calling at seven thirty?"

I scratched my brow as I shook the last remnants of my dream away, how long it would stay away. Who knew, but it was better then having it replay itself over in my mind. I heard Alec sigh "Well I just wanted to tell you that I have a little present for you... or did you already forge

What was he talking about?, I might as well as play along. I was already up and didn't want another round with my nightmares.
"Oh yeah that..."

I just hoped my voice didn't give away my uncertainty, for the life of me I forgot what he was talking or even refering too.

"You forgot didn't you? I swear to god, I can't even believe you've lived this long..."

I smirked "Your starting to sound like a nagging wife"

"Whatever... you wanna know?"

"Wait I remember... it's our first year anniversary right?"
I tried to hold back my laughter, but it was clearly failing. At least I was getting a good laugh at someones expensive. Woo.

"Yeah, very funny. I'm guessing you don't want that Teknys I had ordered for you...I'm sure someone in the bureau wouldn't mind getting it..."

I suddenly remembered, I had asked Alec to order me through the bureau an AL 391 Teknys semi automatic rifle. Now before you get any ideas, I needed it for my job. Really.
With only my Browning HP 35 I was severely underclassed when it came to combating the undead. Though with this rifle I could put exit wounds the size of cantalopes into whatever I shot. I couldn't get this gun anywhere in the united states for it was only sold in the european markets, I had no idea. I guess they have a legitimate reason for it. Oh well.

"When can I pick it up?" My voice sounding like a kid who just found out that he had gotten a new bike for christmas and was ready to ride it all over the place.

"Whoa, cool down. You gotta fill out the paper work over here before you can get your grubby gun hungry hands on it..."

"Like you should talk, I'm not the one who carries two 9mm Desert Eagles... freak"

Yeah it was scary to actually know what kind of firepower we both carried, though I had a legitimate reason to have what I have. He just did it to woo the women.

"Yeah, whatever are you coming over to pick it up or what?"

"I'll be over, can I test it at the underground firing range?"

I really wanted to test fire that gun, I had seen it in action awhile back while the STF squad was raiding a rogue master vampires lair. Lets just say I instantly fell in love.

"Yeah you can. Just hurry it up, the people over here are beginning to stare at the obscenely large package thats leaning against my desk."

I couldn't help but smile. "Oh big words for a Fed."

"Yeah I know, get your ass over here."

"Ok, see you in twenty minutes"

I was about to place the reciever down when I quickly placed it against my ear again.

"Alec, you still there?"

There was a slight pause and I though Alec had hung up, though I heard his voice. Thank god I had to get one more thing in.

"Yeah what is it?"

"It has a black stock right?"

I heard Alec groan "Yes the frikkin gun is black, now get here dammit."

I hung up the phone and grinned. This morning was getting better, time to change and pick up my new toy. It's a guy thing, don't worry about it.
