Saving His Soul
Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Their shopping for clothes took several hours and in the middle of it Esme’s phone rang. She answered and then handed the phone to Alice. “Hello?” She answered curiously.
“Hi.” Jasper's smooth low voice responded. “Just checking in. How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay. Rosalie is making me a bit tired though.” She laughed as the other girl made a face at her. “She is relentless about shopping.”
Jasper's laugh surprised them both. “She is that.” He finally responded. “I figured I would make myself useful and unpack the groceries. I’ll make you dinner tonight ok?”
“That sounds great.” Jasper could hear the longing in her voice. He wanted to be there with her and holding her hand. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to feel her body against his own; to feel her warmth. But most of all he wanted to protect her and keep her safe always. He hadn’t felt this way about a human since he’d been one; over a century before. Since then, humans had been food. He’d been looking for something different when he’d joined Carlisle’s family but the change was still very hard for him.
“Don’t be sad.” He said softly. “You are one of our family now.”
“I’m not sad. I’m happy and I feel like I belong. I just wish…” She trailed off. She wished that he was right here with her. She felt like she could do anything if Jasper was just holding her hand.
“You wish what?” He asked softly.
“I wish they had this blouse in my size.” She finished lamely. They both knew what she wished. They both wished it. Jasper knew from what Edward had…and hadn’t…said that this was his mate. He was going to be with her. Even if he hadn’t heard the things Edward had said he would have known. He’d known from the moment he saw her come flying around that corner in a panic. He’d felt something roar to life. He’d felt his heart roar that this girl was his. He hadn’t known at the time why that was or what it was but they would find out together.
“Yeah. I wish they did too.” He replied and she knew that he knew what she’d really been about to say. “I’ll see you soon, okay? Don’t let them keep you out too long.”
“I won’t. I’ll see you soon, Jasper.”
“Goodbye.”
“Bye.”
It seemed as if neither of them wanted to hang up. To break the connection. They sat in silence each waiting for the other to hang up before he finally sighed softly and whispered “Come home soon.” Before hanging up. Alice turned to see Esme and Rosalie grinning at her.
“What?” Alice asked self-consciously.
“You two are wonderful. It’s nice to see Jasper so happy.” Esme said simply.
“He’s had a really hard time adjusting to our eating habits if you will, he is the newest to us and it has been harder for him than any of the rest of us.” Rosalie explained.
“It doesn’t seem to bother him too much to be around you.” Esme added.
